The UAB ice hockey team looks to conquer Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) in the first two-game series of the year. The MTSU Blue Raiders had an impressive performance in their (8-5) win against Appalachian State earlier this year. Following that, the Blue Raiders lost to Tennessee (4-8) in the first game of the two-game series and tied in the second (4-4). The Blazers are excited to start off the season and look to do so in winning fashion over the MTSU Blue Raiders. On the first episode of “Inside UAB hockey” Ashtain Howell got to interview the Hume brothers, Joseph and Jonny Hume, members of the UAB hockey club; Joseph Hume was talking about what his thought process was going into this year and this season. Hume stated “Not many teams want to face a new team like UAB, they have a reputation to uphold…” Hume also said “We want to reach that level where teams want to play us, where teams want to face the Blazers.” The mindset for this year and the first game seems to be ‘build a foundation’. The Blazers are set to face MTSU this weekend and boy this could lead to a bright future. This UAB team fought to rebuild this program and are ready to showcase what they have. This is an exciting time for UAB and the students who worked so hard to make this happen. It’s time for UAB to play with a chip on their shoulder and prove they belong in ranks with the other collegiate hockey teams.
