UAB had a rough weekend against Alabama, losing both games. Friday night’s game was very quiet with two scoreless periods for UAB. Joseph and Jonny Hume brought the crowd alive with two goals in the third period. The momentum gained in the third period did not translate to Saturday as they went scoreless for all three periods. However, there were a total of nearly 30 saved by the combined efforts of goalies Jaden Scott and Joseph Hume, Hume slid in net for the third period. Tensions were high and a small scuffle broke out between Christian Lohr and two Alabama players, all three were given a five minute penalty box time, which turned into nine minutes waiting for a whistle.
I got a chance to ask head coach Jakob Hornsby about the weekend and what his thoughts were moving forward. He said, “We kept ourselves composed given the circumstances and plan to elaborate on the improvement seen by the players. We are consistently looking to add to the strategy… it starts at defense.” This young UAB team is still new and is growing little by little every game, and shining bright lights on the little wins. I’m excited to see them continue to improve. Go Blazers!
